I'm three weeks old, y'all!

Three weeks today! Such exciting stuff going on in the Bernfeld house, I tell ya.

I told Axel that it's three weeks and he said wooooooooo!!!!  (Again, doing the "raise the roof" dance)
Then due to the excitement and the crazy partying to  celebrate, he and his dad conked out.  I'm noticing a trend of pictures of Ben and Axel sawing logs together...

Yesterday was a big day for Axel... he had his first pediatrician appointment!  Not only that, but it was the first time we'd actually met her since we were kind of forced to put our cards on the table when checking into the hospital and just picking someone.  Luckily, our friend Timi is also a first time mom and found a pediatrician that she thinks very highly of... based on her feedback I decided to give her a shot. I think it was the right call as I LOVED this doctor.  She had this amazing psychic ability to answer questions that I had documented in my phone (yes, I am that person) before I had to ask.  Amazing, she should go on America's Got Talent or something.

Our boy is gaining weight at a faster rate than her minimum requirement, which she was thrilled about.
This fine creature here now weighs in at a whopping 5 1/2 pounds, thank you very much.   Oh and we are 18 1/2 inches long now, y'all!  This puts him in the 15th percentile for size at this point, but he'll start making it up!
We learned a lot about what should be in a diaper bag.  Translation:  We fail at packing a diaper bag.  "Go ahead and undress Axel, change his diaper and then we will weigh him".  Okay, we got this part, we have a diaper!

"Thank you so much, now go ahead and keep him undressed and the doctor will be with you as soon as she reviews his records from the hospital.  You can wrap him in a blanket to keep him warm."

Um... blanket?  Was I supposed to pack one of those?  Luckily my creative husband's shirt was big enough that he pulled up the bottom and wrapped it around our child so that the little thing wouldn't FREEZE to death.

We didn't bring a change of clothes, either.  Luckily we didn't need that, but I am now educated on the need and the purpose.   I will have the BEST STOCKED bag very soon and all the other new moms will look at me and say, "Wow, now SHE knows how to pack that bag."  YEAH!

One of the best things that the pediatrician told us is that we don't have to wake him up at night to eat; (yes!) rather, wait for him to wake us up.  Which he does... and he stays up.  I have the honor of graveyard shift with him... and he loves it so much, he's awake for about 3 hours each night between about 1am and 4am.   This is our quality time together.

He also has quality time with some of the animals... he and Cyrus are now BFF's and they share secrets.
Psst.... did you see what Delilah just did???

He is a baby in his day to day, but when you least expect it, he breaks out with amazing strength and skill and does his superhero thing...  (thank you, Nancy and Misty!)

Clearly we are having fun at the Bernfeld house.

He's had lots of company since our last post... he's met Lindsay and Travis, who gave him this awesome hat... that he will grow into..

He met the Wessels Family... (feel free to comment on Justin's hair... the pic of him and Axel was posted by Sheila on Facebook and the entire comment string was about Justin's hair.  It's a very cute pic, though!)
He met Betsy yesterday, who brought us over food and an Angel Care Monitor that helps to gauge if the baby is breathing or not.  This is good for people who are paranoid. :)   We haven't set it up yet, but it's definitely something we are debating on.

One last pic that I think is just amazingly sweet...  we did some tummy time today and afterwards we did a little snuggling with dad... I think that they are going to be very good friends. :)
