HAPPY BIRTHDAY, NUGGET!!!!

One year ago today, I was getting in the car to drive my husband to work when the ever so unexpected happened.  Axel Edward decided that THAT was the day he would join this world, whether we were ready for him or not!

My husband was certain he was coming any day and I scoffed... see proof below, with special attention to the date of the correspondence:

I still remember the denial I was in - before going to the doctor, I jumped on line and cancelled my morning meetings, saying that I would reschedule for later in the week.  I called my boss and told her I would be in late, sorry, since it was my third day in the Austin office at my brand new job.  Who knew that someone would be so adamant about this not happening when her water actually breaks?  Yup, this girl.

This all happened at about eight am... at 2:22pm, Axel Edward Bernfeld was officially our little human, no longer safely snug in the belly he'd been oh so comfortable in (or so I thought).
Nugget's here!

Cozy little man

Now it's been a year.  Unbelievable that time flies as quickly as it has.

Let me tell you a few things about "The Nugget".

  • His favorite TV show is Wheel of Fortune.   Seriously.  He will stop everything and solve those puzzles.
  • He loves fish.  He loves to watch fish, and he loves to eat fish.
Watching the fish at the Austin Aquarium

  • He loves music.  He really likes Jack Johnson.
  • He loves to give kisses.  And will walk around making kissing sounds until you kiss him.  (And sometimes he still continues even after a little loving. )
Kissin' Cousins, AKA Future Blackmail Pic
  • He loves the water... bath time is something that we all enjoy because he has such an amazing time.  He goes crazy in swimming pools, and was a natural at the beach!
    Hanging in his Brozin's pool
    Bath time is happiness.
  • He says "Delilah".  Although it's kind of a Derirah sound.  How ironic is it that the dog we put in therapy is the one he adores?
    Delilah watching over her baby
  • He loves to sing, "Lalalalalalala"
  • He loves his family... his aunts, uncles, grandmas and grandpas, and especially his cousins. He's in heaven when his sister is here to be with him. :)

    With beloved Auntie B
  • He is great in restaurants.
  • He loves to stand.
    Standing, Yo!
  • He goes insane for Mum-Mums. (Thanks, Auntie B, that's all you).
  • He giggles uncontrollably at his daddy - no one else can make him laugh like he can... and it's the most amazing sound you will ever hear.
  • He always falls asleep in the car.
  • He has slept through the night since his Uncle Greg's birthday party, when he was only three months old.  He goes down super easy every night about 7:30 - 8 and is up at 6:30 every morning with a smile on his face and the dimple showing.
  • When he's really happy, he kicks his feet.  And he will do it on demand.
  • He's starting to mimic actions... recently he has adopted Nonononononon (picture your arm going back and forth quickly and shaking no no no no no) and "raise the roof" with the help of Brittany and her boyfriend, Hunter.
  • He likes to toss a ball back and forth.
  • He is so lucky and so blessed to have family and friends who love him unconditionally and are beyond good to him. (and so are we)
  • He started to crawl on Mother's Day!
  • He graduated from Occupational Therapy on June 25!
  • He has only 5 weeks left in his Docband (helmet)
Little man, we love you so much and I am amazed every day by you.  Thank you for coming into this world and spending your life with us... we promise we'll give you more love than you will ever know what to do with.  Happy birthday, Buddy!!!

Sweet boy. :)

So hopefully I can watch some with him real soon. :) Also, so glad his doc band treatment has gone well, but I will miss pictures of him in it. He's so cute wearing that thing. lol
